Halcyon House: Artist In Residence / Australia
December 2016.
'In June 2016, I was invited be an artist in residence at Halcyon House, a hotel situated on Cabarita Beach in Northern New South Wales, Australia. During my stay, I visited Byron Bay, Mullumbimby and Brunswick Heads. I drove through Kingscliff, Condong and Murwillumbah -- all beautiful little towns with their idiosyncrasies. I skirted around the base of Mount Warning and looped back through Mooball National Park. At night I’d wander down to Cabarita Beach and take pictures of the ocean and the moon.

As you will see, the pictures themselves represent a mixture of approaches. I found myself wanting to create both meditations on color and form however I also found myself drawn to the bush itself. Off the side of the road, I’d wander in. The seemingly infinite layering of splintered light and color would present like elaborate drip paintings. Immersed in the humid hum of the scrub, resides the soul of the land, where the spirits lie. The images presented are a selection of those taken during my stay.'
